Managing Catagories in Prestashop 1.6

The importance of categories

Categories is necessary, thus they permit user group products which have the same techniques. This help customer find what they need easier through the diversification of your categories and it also narrows the finding location when customer can search the type of product which they need. Categories also help customer compare product easily (by using modules and techniques of Prestashop)

User should create a new category when you have at least two products with the same techniques and attributes. Products contained in a category should be compatible, if they are unchanged. Keeping this idea in mind when adding new products and create new categories. You cannot create categories, and then you give all of its products in the same place at the "Home". But then the customer is very difficult to search and compare products together.

Steps to manage

This list is managed in the "Category" menu page "Catalog". This page displays a table with the existing categories, with the information displayed.

To display the sub-section, click on the main theme, or select the view menu in action.

Use the icons in the "Display" column of the table, you can point out what you want to hide from the client by clicking on the icon green check-mark, thus turning it into a red "x" mark.

To edit the "Home" category (or any currently selected), click on "Edit" button in the button bar table shows the roots.

To create a new category (or a sub-category of an existing category), click on "Add New" from any level items.

Note: 

The root category is very useful in multi-shop mode. Imagine you have 3 stores with different or partly different products and categories: you might want to use a different root category for each store.

The root category this reflects the "home" category of each store so if you do not want to have the same products in the homepage category of each store, you need different root categories.

This way it is easier to assign categories to each store and you can have different products in the home category.
